Hi all,

Please see below— There’s an accessibility project at McGill looking for a developer (this was shared with me by Heather Walkus who’s chair of the steering committee for Accessibility in Action). If anyone knows of someone who might be a good fit for this feel free to pass this on to them.

Cheers,
Ned

Hi Ned
This came across my desk this morning and wondered if you had a network to send it through.

Hi all,
The second developer recruited for the IMAGE Project has been recruited by another group. Jeremy has posted the job posting below. He agrees it would be great if a blind developer or someone already familiar with creating accessible platforms were available would be great.
If you know of anyone who fits the job post below, please share:
Thanks,
David

Job opportunity: Web developer with the Shared Reality Lab

Seeking a skilled web developer to join the IMAGE project (image.a11y.mcgill.ca<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.a11y.mcgill.ca%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cnzimmerman%40ocadu.ca%7Cd4b8e7c2d0644d77c43708d947c2d4dd%7C06e469d12d2a468fae9b7df0968eb6d7%7C0%7C0%7C637619724386317734%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=e4RBmCqhE8W7%2F8xUG1aLpXKRi%2BLGrN0AFYuFe74V5nY%3D&reserved=0>) creating software and hardware tools for people who are blind or visually impaired, as part of a funded grant running through mid-2022. The main project goal is to improve web accessibility by creating a multimodal audio and haptic system that represents web graphics, including tables, charts, and maps. To support this goal, the developer will design and implement both a server and a browser plug-in which will connect the output of various machine learning tools to a rendering layer for audio and/or haptic effects. The browser plugin will provide real-time dynamic overlay of the website contents, taking non-accessible images and replacing these with an accessible interface with description provided by our server. The project will be open-sourced and ideally have a fully modular API for others to expand on and develop. As such, strong knowledge and experience with software architectures is imperatives. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record, demonstrating relevant development skills to the project.

Preferred skills:
- Docker experience
- Full stack development experience
- Experience building REST APIs with Node.js
- Knowledge of building and deploying browser plugins
- Open source experience and contributions
- Experience integrating ML pipelines with a server
- Experience deploying to AWS server
- Application security measures
- Modern JavaScript including ES6 features, scope, closures, inheritance, and asynchrony

To apply, please submit the following to <srl-jobs at cim.mcgill.ca><mailto:srl-jobs at cim.mcgill.ca>
1. A brief letter of application, describing your qualifications and relevant experience to the position of interest, along with your dates of availability.
