SJRK-187: Kettle crash in Storytelling Tool

Hi all,

I've got a bit of a head-scratcher: over the last year or so we've noticed server issues with the Storytelling Tool<https://stories.floeproject.org/>. The most glaring symptoms are 502 errors on page load or a lack of response when attempting to fetch story data or a list of stories for the Browse page. The frequency of these crashes has been increasing as the performance of the tool has been getting better, and we're to a point now where it is a blocker.

I believe the issues we're experiencing now are described by SJRK-187<https://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/SJRK-187> and its comments. If my theory is correct, then the problem lies outside of the Storytelling Tool codebase and likely with Kettle, though it is of course entirely possible the issue is in the ST code.

Has anyone else run a Kettle server and experienced similar issues relating to multithreading? Does this ring any bells? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
