Hi, Yash.
First, I wanted to comment on the difficulties you mention with IRC, which
is a common problem for new community members. The IRC channel is a
real-time means of communicating with the community, and you'll see the
most responsive feedback if you use the channel during the hours when
people are around to respond. As many of you have learned by experience,
most of the community are available during North American working hours. I
am one of the few mentors available during European working hours.
IRC also depends on your client staying connected, which can be confusing.
Many people join, ask a question, and then disconnect. So if people come
online and respond, the original poster is not around to hear the answer.
There are strategies to help with this, such as:
1. Leaving your client connected (if you do not have consistent internet
or are traveling, there are web-based clients that stay connected and keep
transcripts for you).
2. When you first connect, read the transcripts linked from the channel
topic to see if anyone responded to your question while you were offline.
3. Use this mailing list, especially for conversations that don't
necessarily have to happen in real time.
I encourage our new community members to stick with it, and look forward to
talking with you soon.
On that note, as we've discussed in other threads, starting next Monday,
proposals are accepted for projects. You mentioned being interested in the
gamepad project. I can't speak for other mentors, but I am willing to
chat, read proposal drafts and give feedback ahead of time. Please let me
know if you have questions or need input regarding the gamepad project.
Cheers,
Tony
