Hi Jim,
Thank you for the comments. Linked are updated mockups inside the CK-12 resource: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Discovery+Tool+%28June+9%29<http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Discovery+Tool+(June+9)>
For the demo prototype of the Discovery Tool we are considering the presets listed at the top of the wiki page:
- high contrast
- low contrast
- simplify
- speak
- extra words
Please let us know if you have any suggestions on improving these presets.
Also, a few responses to your comments inline...
1. I'm not sure the logos for 'games' and 'simplicity' work on their own. How about a generic game controller shape? For 'simplicity', I dunno what logo could possibly work, but perhaps the word should be 'simple', as 'simplicity' may be
several grade levels too high. (For all the logos, animations would work pretty well, especially to show the act of transformation, but of course that would introduce other problems.)
We changed the label to 'simplify' to parallel the other verbs used, do you think that term could be problematic? For the icon, we've changed it to show a simpler layout.
I think the idea of having the icons animate could be really fun and it might clarify their functions. I will try mocking up a simple animation that appears on hover.
4. Relatedly, does the 'text' option replace images with, for example, their alt text, or is it the portal to adjusting font, size, spacing, etc.?
Yes, the 'extra words' preset shows the alt text for images, but it does not remove the images. The alt text appears as a caption overlay <http://wiki.fluidproject.org/download/attachments/34581187/DT_words-image.jpg?version=2&modificationDate=1373407460470> when the user hovers over a image. Also if there is any videos on the page, the preset turns on their transcripts.
Thanks!
Joanna
