Hi Arash,
I agree with you and think that thumbnails are better, because of the
problems with pdf's rendering. Using thumbnails to select highlights of the
exploration is also important, because it makes easier to identify key
points in each version.
Also there's an issue with the accessibility: I've tried to view this page
from an iPad, but pdf's slide shows are not available there, so I vote for
thumbnails.
