[Design Pattern] Sliding Date Picker

Interesting!
I was trying to think of an application for thus component since I have
never seen it used in commercial software I've used. But after some thought
I think this kind of UI component would be great for filtering data in a
table or list.
Not only useful for filtering dates, you can also filter textual data as
well such as names (select the "Student Name" column of and filter for only
names beginning with E to G), and filtering for numerical values (i.e.
filter images in the Gallery that have pixel width between 800 to 1280
pixels, thus filtering out anything larger because it won't fit nicely into
the screen). This would imply that the slider would dynamically change what
it is filtering depending on what column is selected in the table.
I think the greatness lies in applications beyond dates, but help filter
data that is in a sequential order.
