I need to hop out for 3 hours, but I have committed my best guess
at a fix for the GAL-68 client/server ordering mismatch problem
to

I haven't had time to check that this does anything other than
build unfortunately, but hopefully it will be edifying to study
and perhaps kick around until I get back...
